“A Legacy Revealed: The Secret War” exhibit in Wisconsin

Good news for the Hmong community in Wisconsin, an exhibit examining the US Secret War in Laos that ended 50 years ago in 1974 will be on display at the Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, Wisconsin near Duluth, Minnesota.

The Bong Center opened in 2002 in Superior, Wisconsin. The exhibits honor local veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and other modern conflicts. Their museum is dedicated to sharing and preserving their stories as well as passing on the legacy of their hometown hero, Dick Bong. Richard “Dick” Ira Bong (1920 – 1945) was a United States Army Air Forces major and Medal of Honor recipient. He is credited with shooting down 40 Japanese aircraft using a Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter. He died as a test pilot for the Lockheed P-80 jet fighter shortly before the end of World war II. Bong was posthumously inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1986.
