Now on its 18th year, the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement (ISSN 2153-8999) is an online and freely accessible interdisciplinary journal providing a forum for scholars and writers from diverse fields who share a common interest in Southeast Asian (SEA) Americans and their communities. I’ve served as the Creative Works editor since 2007 working with emerging and established writers and scholars from across the United States to share examples of their creative writing work with their peers and community, and I’m happy to have been given a chance recently to look back on over 64 pieces we’ve shared representing well over 100 poems, short stories, short plays and examples of creative non-fiction that the authors wanted to share. Many were the first in their families to attend college and come from communities where academic and artistic achievement cannot be taken for granted. I thank everyone who took the steps to share their work with the journal and gave us so much to think about, especially as many of us approach our 50th year in diaspora.
JSAAEA is published with support from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the College of Education at Purdue University, and Purdue Libraries Scholarly Publishing Services and Purdue University Press. JSAAEA was originally established in 2006 by the Executive Board of the National Association for the Education and Advancement of Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese Americans (NAFEA).
