Marking 150 Years of Asian Americans in Michigan

I’ll be part of the 150th anniversary commemoration of Asian Americans in Michigan during this reading on May 5th, 2022 via zoom. from 4 to 6pm EST.

Before I came to Minnesota, many of my most important roots as a writer began as a child in Michigan in the 1980s.

This experience was deeply formative thanks to incidents such as the Vincent Chin case and my own experiences exploring the world of arts and letters and the humanities as one of the first Lao Americans in the US.

I’m honored to be part of their celebration of 150 years of Asian Americans in Michigan on Thursday, May 5th, convened by the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission from 4-6PM as we remember our diverse journeys and our shared stories while exploring the theme “Where Are You From? Where Are you REALLY From?”

Acclaimed Asian American authors, scholars, and artists from Michigan will be reading there, including Curtis Chin, Carlina Duan, Minal Hajratwala, Zilka Joseph, Marcia Lee, Richard Lui, Serina Rodriguez Sharpe, Purvi Shah, Lara Stapleton, Frances Kai-Hwa Wang, Paula Yoo, and myself! The full bios are at bit.ly/3v1aOPv

This will be available by zoom: Bit.ly/3Mgy32j and I look forward to seeing all of you there!
