New Book by Frances Kai-Hwa Wang

Since 2018, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the work of award-winning Asian American poet and essayist Frances Kai-Hwa Wang, including her collections Imaginary Affairs, Lava Meets Sea, and Dreams of Diaspora. I’ve read with her in Michigan and Minnesota over the years and appreciate her approach to depicting the challenges of family, culture, history, and justice in all of her works.

To that end, I’m particularly happy to note the release of her new book of non-fiction essays and reflections, You Cannot Resist Me When My Hair Is In Braids, from Wayne State University Press. Be sure to visit her website at
