Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay at Pollen

Over at Pollen, Lao American writer Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay has a new essay and recipe up entitled  “When The Love Is Good Enough But The Food Is Sad,” reflecting on her youth and family and the journey of Lao and Southeast Asians in diaspora.

She takes a look at how food and love are intertwined in addition to traditional beliefs, customs, and adapting to life in the US shortly after the end of the Secret War for Laos. It’s definitely worth a read, and artist Ry Macarayan’s art goes very well with the essay.

Be sure to visit her at in order to keep up to date on her latest projects.
