Homage to “Apsara In New York”

“Apsara in New York,” by Ajahn Setthithorn, inspired by the debut work of Khmer poet Sokunthary Svay.  This collaboration marks a unique collaboration between a Thai master artist and the Lao Minnesotan poet laureate to depict New York and a Khmer Apsara holding a book, among other personal and cultural symbols of significance to the author who served as the inspiration for the piece.

While Master Setthithorn has depicted the Apsara in the past, this is a unique setting and significance for him, and so it is essentially a one-of-a-kind piece in his body of work, created just before the 45th anniversary of the Southeast Asian diasporas.
