Lao Voices in the Central Valley Booklaunch

On December 2nd the Lao Student Association of Fresno State released their collection Lao Voices of the Central Valley.

They issued a thank you to their sponsors and supporters at Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM), Lao American Community of Fresno, Asian American Club of Fresno City College, Connie Chanthalangsy-Marez, Khampha Thephavong,  L&N Catering and Diana’s Award Winning Papaya Salad for providing everyone with delicious appetizers!

Thanks also went to everyone who came to support them at the book launch party. “Without everyone’s support this book would have stayed an idea. We are so proud that this project was successful!”

Three of my poems “Jaew,” “Commodity,” and “Laos in the House” are part of the collection, drawing in part on my family’s roots in Modesto and Ceres. I’m excited to see their results.

The Lao Student Association of Fresno State has taken a significant step in publishing this book which represents the unheard Lao voices. “There are so many talented Lao writers and artists here in the Central Valley and we believe that this book is necessary. Books are how we preserve our stories and pass on to the next generation,” the organizers said.
