In good news for the field, Uncanny Magazine is offering an editorial internship position with Uncanny Magazine. It’s one of the rare positions in the field to actively be encouraging people of color and Native and Indigenous people to apply.

The internship will begin in January and run through the end of December 2018, and will come with a small stipend. They seek an intern with a “deep love of science fiction and fantasy, and an interest in editorial work and publishing.”

The intern will have a chance to experience what it’s like be part of a magazine’s daily operations. Uncanny Magazine is a two-time Hugo Award-winning online bimonthly publication. The focus on this internship will be to assist their managing editor, Michi Trota, to produce a regular newsletter over a period of 10-15 hours per month. This internship emphasizes editing and production, but there might be opportunities to work with basic graphics and design. Communication and tasks will be done primarily online via email, Slack, and Google Hangout or Skype.

The deadline to apply is between December 1st-15th, so if you’re interested, I would not hesitate about getting your materials ready and throwing your hat in the ring.

Uncanny has brought many exciting and exceptional changes to the field. particularly diversification of what might expect from writers around the world exploring the imaginative and the fantastic. They’ve published several of my poems as well as work by many members of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association, including this year’s winner of the 2017 Rhysling Award, Theodora Goss. If you have the chance to work with them or support their projects I strongly encourage you to do so.
