On November 19th, the Lao Student Association at the University of Minnesota held their program, Sabaidee: Flavors of Laos at the University of Minnesota in Coffman Memorial Union. The evening brought together community members, families, and friends to celebrate Lao American culture.
Demonstrations of traditional dance and music, VR tours of Laos, breakdancing, a papaya salad eating contest, and other interactive displays made it an interesting introduction for many to the heritage of the the students.
With plenty of time between performances, there was ample opportunity to talk and enjoy each other’s company in a sabai setting.
The Lao Student Association (LSA) of Minnesota is a group of students organized to promote, educate, and preserve the Lao culture. Their organization aspires to serve as a supportive community on campus, for Lao students pursuing higher education.
I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next from all of them.
