This week I had the chance to see the work of the folks at Word Sprout who organize The Not-So-Silent Planet, the current longest-running speculative literature slam in the country (and possibly the world? the galaxy?) in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the famed Kieran’s Pub.
It’s an evocative space with great energy and a supportive and enthusiastic audience. This month’s featured guest was Kyle Dekker, the man behind the wonderful mash-up Waiting for Gygax examining the Theater of the Absurd and Dungeons and Dragons.
The Not So Silent Planet accepts poetry, short stories, songs, or even WTH/experimental works under 5 minutes. For members of the SFPA in the area or just passing through, if you’re interested in performing or just giving it a listen, I’d recommend it.
Hopefully, one day, we’ll see many more series like these emerge around the world. I’m glad to see #SFFPoetry and literature getting a space to build community.
